How to Write Better Recommendations in Less Time

Session Date: Wednesday, September 13th

Session Time: 10-11:30am PT (1-2:30pm ET)

Led by Director of College Counseling at International School of Los Angeles Ayesha King, Granada Hills Charter's College & Career Counselor Erin Kim, and College Essay Guy's Community Manager Tom Campbell

This session is a fundraiser for the Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC) which is dedicated to fostering professional development, ethical practice, social responsibility, and dynamic community among our members so that they can provide high-quality college counseling to the students they serve.

In this one-day workshop, we'll cover:

  • How important are recommendation letters, and what is their role in the admission process?
  • How do different colleges review and contextualize recommendation letters from different high schools? What are their expectations?
  • What can I do (given my caseload and the needs of my school or CBO community) to uplevel my recommendations?
  • Where do counselor recommendations fit in with the broader forms of school advocacy (including teacher letters and school profiles)? What information should go where?

What People Are Saying About My Courses:

As a white, cisgender, heterosexual woman, I am committed to continuing this work both in and out of the work place. Over the past two years, I have really started to become aware of my privilege and how that impacts both me and the people who surround me. I really appreciate the safe space that was given and getting to hear from my colleagues was very eye-opening. My heart is heavy but it is also full. Thank you, Marie and Ashley, for helping us learn and grow. This is something I will always carry with me.
